Since Twitter disabled its "verify account" service, some companies and celebrities have found a way to bypass the ban, and according to AdAge, the way to get the little “check” icon on your account is to pay for it.

In order to have your account verified, you either need to have Charlie Sheen’s charisma or sign up as an advertiser on the microblogging network and spend a minimum of US$ 15,000.

The person who revealed Twitters dirty little secret was Andy Cohn, president and editor of the music magazine The Fader, who tried to get the company’s account verified, which has over 73 thousand followers. He spoke to a sales rep, who informed him of the conditions.

The service was launched in 2009 but disabled one year later due to high demand.
